Governor Siminalayi Fubara has assured residents of Rivers
State that ongoing infrastructure projects under his administration will be
completed despite the political uncertainty surrounding the state.
The governor gave the assurance during a visit to inspect
the ongoing construction of a 7.1-kilometre bypass road designed to provide an
alternative route for communities around the Port Harcourt International
Airport.
Speaking during the inspection on Friday, Fubara explained
that the road project was initiated to address persistent problems caused by
repeated protests by host communities along the airport road corridor.
According to him, disagreements between the communities and airport authorities
often led to the blocking of the major road leading to the airport, creating
serious inconvenience for travellers and residents.
He noted that the recurring shutdowns affected movement,
disrupted business activities and created unnecessary traffic challenges within
the area.
The governor said the new bypass would provide a separate
access route for neighbouring communities while allowing the airport road to
serve only airport-related traffic once completed. He added that the
arrangement would reduce tension and ensure smoother movement for both
residents and airport users.
According to Fubara, the project was flagged off in December
alongside the commissioning of the airport road and has continued to progress
steadily.
He disclosed that construction work has already reached an
advanced stage, with about 65 per cent of the job completed. The governor
expressed optimism that the contractors handling the project would finish the
road before October this year.
Fubara used the occasion to reassure Rivers residents that
his government remains focused on development and would not allow political
distractions to slow down critical projects meant to improve the lives of the
people.
He stressed that his administration is determined to sustain
the pace of infrastructure delivery across the state, insisting that projects
already started would not be abandoned midway.
The governor maintained that his priority remains the
welfare of Rivers people through practical development initiatives that support
transportation, commerce and easier movement within the state.
He further assured citizens that his administration would
continue to pursue projects capable of boosting economic activities and
improving public confidence in governance across Rivers State.
