Nwankpa, A Native Of Abia State And A Bishop Of A
Pentecostal Church Based In Onitsha, Was Arraigned Before The Anambra High
Court In Awka Alongside Seven Other Christian Clerics Facing Similar
Accusations.
The Development Has Sparked Strong Reactions From His
Supporters, Associates And Members Of His Community, Many Of Whom Have
Questioned The Basis Of The Allegations.
Speaking On The Matter, Nwankpa’s Media Aide, Stanley
Nduagu, Strongly Defended The Cleric, Insisting That He Had Spent More Than 25
Years In Ministry Without Any Record Of Fraudulent Religious Practices.
According To Him, The Accusations Against The Bishop Are Not
Backed By Any Credible Evidence. He Argued That The Case Has Unfairly Tarnished
The Reputation Of A Man Who Has Devoted Decades To Religious Service.
The Arrest Has Also Drawn Criticism From Some People In
Nwankpa’s Hometown Of Isiala Ngwa In Abia State. Several Community Members
Expressed Concern Over The Situation And Called For His Immediate Release.
One Of Them, Ngozi Ahunanya, Accused The Anambra State
Government Of Targeting Religious Groups. She Claimed That The Actions Being
Taken Against Clerics And Traditional Worshippers Were Creating Fear Among Many
People.
Adding To The Growing Backlash, Francess Olisa Ogbonnaya,
The African Democratic Congress (Adc) Candidate For The Arochukwu State
Constituency Seat, Also Condemned The Arrest.
Ogbonnaya Described The Move As Unnecessary And Argued That
It Amounted To Harassment Of Christian Leaders And Worshippers.
While The Anambra State Government Continues Its Legal
Action Against The Clerics, The Case Has Already Generated Heated Debate Across
Religious And Political Circles, With Supporters Of Bishop Nwankpa Demanding
Justice And Insisting That The Allegations Against Him Must Be Proven In Court.
