Senator Victor Umeh has visited the 10-year-old boy who
survived a shocking case of child abuse in Anambra State, promising to push for
stronger legal measures while calling for the full weight of the law to be
brought against those responsible.
The
senator's visit comes as outrage continues to grow over the disturbing
treatment suffered by the young boy, whose condition drew national attention
after videos of his injuries spread across social media.
During
the visit, Umeh expressed sympathy for the child and praised the efforts of
individuals, government officials and medical professionals who stepped in to
save his life.
He
said their swift actions prevented what could have ended in tragedy and
demonstrated the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable
children.
The
lawmaker stressed that those who abuse children must face serious consequences,
insisting that justice in the case should be pursued without compromise.
According to him, a firm response from the legal system would serve as a
warning to others and help protect children from similar abuse.
The
case involves a couple, Chisom Chukwuyere and her husband, Chukwudi Chukwuyere,
who were arrested by authorities in connection with the alleged abuse of the
boy in the Awada area of Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
Reports
indicate that the child suffered severe burns and injuries allegedly inflicted
with melted plastic or rubber. The shocking incident came to light after
neighbours intervened and videos showing the boy's condition began circulating
online.
Following
the rescue, officials from the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and
Social Welfare took custody of the child and ensured he received urgent medical
treatment.
The
suspects are currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation
Department (CID).
The
incident has sparked widespread condemnation across Anambra State, with
lawmakers and child rights advocates demanding a speedy trial and justice for
the victim.
For
Umeh, the message is clear: child abuse must never be tolerated, and anyone
found guilty must face the full consequences of the law.
