The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it will not
depend solely on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to
safeguard its votes during the 2027 general election, insisting it is putting
plans in place to ensure every vote cast for its candidates is protected.
The party's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji
Abdullahi, made the declaration on Wednesday in Ilorin during a public
awareness walk organised to introduce residents of the Kwara State capital to
the party's activities and preparations for the next general election.
Addressing journalists at the event, Abdullahi said the ADC
had learnt important lessons from the 2023 elections and would not repeat what
he described as the mistake of placing complete trust in the electoral body.
While acknowledging that many INEC officials are committed to conducting
credible elections, he argued that confidence in the electoral process should
not depend on trust alone.
According to him, the party has developed strategies to
defend its votes nationwide but would not reveal the details publicly. He
maintained that the ADC was determined to ensure that the votes of its
supporters count at every stage of the electoral process.
Abdullahi also expressed confidence that President Bola
Tinubu would be defeated in the 2027 presidential election, arguing that the
party's resolve to protect its votes would strengthen its chances, regardless
of how the election is conducted.
He stressed that the ADC's focus is now on strengthening its
structures and preparing ahead of the polls, saying the party believes that
effective vote protection will be as important as campaigning when Nigerians
return to the ballot box in 2027.
