Tobi Amusan
has said a knee injury suffered during training prevented her from defending
her women's 100m hurdles title at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after settling
for bronze in Thursday night's final.
The Nigerian world record holder clocked 12.60 seconds to finish third, ending
her reign as Commonwealth champion after winning back-to-back gold medals at
the 2018 Gold Coast and 2022 Birmingham Games.

Charlton claimed the gold medal in 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica's Megan Simmons secured silver with a time of 12.41 seconds.
Speaking after the race, Amusan disclosed that a heavy fall
during training left her worried about her knee before the competition.
"I had a pretty bad fall at training camp, so I've been
concerned about my knee coming into this meet. I'm thankful I was able to hold
it together and still finish on the podium," she said.
Despite missing out on a third consecutive Commonwealth
title, the Nigerian hurdler's podium finish under difficult circumstances underlined
her determination and resilience.
