CAC Sets August 1 Deadline To Enforce Company Details On Business Letters

By Chuka Madu

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has given companies across Nigeria until August 1, 2026, to fully comply with legal rules requiring key corporate information to appear on all official business letters.

In a public notice released on July 8, 2026, the Commission said it would begin strict enforcement of the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, adding that companies which fail to meet the requirements will face penalties.

The regulator explained that the decision is based on the provisions of Sections 304(1), 304(2) and other relevant parts of the Act, which spell out the information every registered company must include in its official correspondence.

Under the rules, every company is expected to clearly state its registered name and registration number on all business letters. In addition, the full names of all directors, including their present forenames or initials and surnames, must also be listed.

The Commission said companies are equally required to disclose any previous forenames or surnames used by their directors. Where a director is not a Nigerian citizen, the person's nationality must also be clearly indicated.

According to the CAC, these requirements are not new, but from August 1 they will no longer be treated as optional. The Commission warned that businesses that ignore the law should expect sanctions once the enforcement begins.

The notice urged all companies registered under CAMA 2020 to review their official letterheads and other business correspondence immediately to ensure they meet the legal standard before the deadline.

The Commission said the enforcement drive forms part of its wider efforts to improve openness in corporate operations, strengthen accountability among registered businesses and build greater public confidence in Nigeria's business environment. It added that ensuring compliance with the law will also support a more transparent and efficient corporate regulatory system while improving service delivery to customers.
