Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has been named Nigeria's best performing bank in The Banker's Top 1000 World Banks Rankings 2026, after emerging as the country's highest-ranked lender across key measures of financial performance.

The annual rankings assess banks worldwide using audited financial results. Institutions are evaluated on a range of indicators, including financial strength, operational efficiency, liquidity, profitability, growth and risk management.

According to the 2026 rankings, GTBank finished first overall among Nigerian banks. It also ranked first for efficiency and soundness, while placing second in return on risk, liquidity, growth, leverage and profitability.

The bank said the latest recognition reflects its consistent financial performance, disciplined operations and focus on delivering sustainable growth.

Responding to the announcement, the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, Mrs Miriam Olusanya, said the award recognised the dedication of the bank's employees, the loyalty of its customers and the support it receives as part of Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO).

She said leading the rankings in overall performance, efficiency and soundness reflected the bank's disciplined approach to banking and its commitment to creating lasting value for customers and other stakeholders. Mrs Olusanya added that the recognition would encourage the bank to continue improving its services and maintaining high standards across its operations.

GTBank said the award also strengthens its position as one of Africa's leading banking institutions. According to the bank, the recognition reflects the strength of its business model, continued investment in innovation and commitment to delivering quality customer service.

GTBank is the flagship banking subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, a financial services group with operations across Africa and the United Kingdom.

In addition to commercial banking, GTCO provides a range of financial services, including payment solutions, funds management and pension fund administration. The group says it remains focused on strong corporate governance, innovation and creating long-term value for customers, shareholders and the communities where it operates.

The latest ranking by The Banker adds to GTBank's growing list of international recognitions and highlights its performance across some of the banking industry's most closely watched financial and operational measures.
