Nollywood
actress and producer Ruth Kadiri has revealed that fear of marriage was one of
the reasons she kept her relationship and wedding private.
Kadiri spoke about her
decision during a recent episode of the Dear Ife podcast, saying she
was unsure whether her marriage would work and feared that making it public
could bring unnecessary drama.
“I had a phobia of
marriage. I was battling with the fear of the unknown and asking myself, ‘Am I
going to make this decision and everything will now scatter?’” she said.
Kadiri said she was not
ready for a public marriage and that her husband, Mr Ezerika, supported her
decision.
She said the couple also
agreed to keep their wedding small, inviting only 50 people.
“Twenty-five people were
invited by him, while 25 others were invited by me,” she said.
Kadiri said she
preferred to avoid the attention and drama that could come with making her
relationship public.
“If I
were abroad, I guess we would have just probably walked to the registry and
gotten married,” she said.
Kadiri
and Ezerika got married in a private ceremony around November 2018.
The couple welcomed their first daughter in August 2019 and
their second daughter in July 2022.
