Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC)
presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, has claimed that
he has evidence that President Bola Tinubu is 90 years old, saying he would
present it in court.
Atiku made the claim in an interview with the BBC published
on Friday while explaining his decision to contest the presidency and arguing
that his age and health should not stop him from offering himself for public
service.
“You have a President who is 90 years old now and sick and I
am healthy and strong. So why won’t I make myself available to serve my
country?” Atiku said.
He further said he had evidence to support his claim about
Tinubu’s age and would present it before a court if necessary.
“You went and voted for someone who is 90 years old. I have
evidence that President Tinubu is 90 years old and I will present it in court,”
he said.
Atiku also defended his repeated attempts to become
president, saying his political journey had been shaped by his opposition to
military rule and previous disqualifications.
He stressed that contesting the presidency was within his
constitutional rights and said his experience, competence and patriotism
qualified him to lead the country.
The former vice-president also blamed Nigeria’s insecurity
on what he described as government irresponsibility, particularly in defence
and policing.
Atiku promised to tackle the country’s security problems
within one year if elected, saying stronger attention to defence and policing
would be needed to restore security.
