NDC Is Anambra South’s Choice for 2027 – Ebuka Onunkwo

Senatorial candidate urges supporters to welcome opposition voters as party leaders rally support in Ekwulobia

Chief Dr Ebuka Onunkwo, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Anambra South in the 2027 general election, has declared that the party is the preferred choice of the people ahead of next year’s polls.

Onunkwo made the statement at a reception hosted by Chief Dr Okwudili Ezeike, Ikeakachi I of Ekwulobia, for members of Ekwulobia NDC Wards 1 and 2 in Aguata Local Government Area.

The event, held despite heavy rain, drew enthusiastic party supporters who remained at the venue to welcome the senatorial hopeful, in what party leaders described as a strong sign of their commitment to the NDC.

Onunkwo: The support goes beyond party lines

Onunkwo praised Ezeike for organising the reception and recalled his contribution to the Labour Party’s success in both wards during the last general election.

He said the growing support for the NDC in the area showed that the political landscape was changing, adding that the party had become a strong platform for delivering the benefits of democracy to the people.

“This is the first ward-level meeting I am attending out of the 118 wards in Anambra South,” Onunkwo said, stressing that the reception was significant because it reflected the genuine support he enjoyed in Ekwulobia.

He said he now felt more at home in the NDC than in his former party, where he had once played an important role.

According to him, the support he is receiving is no longer simply about political momentum but a sign that the NDC offers a better platform for his political ambitions and service to the people.

Onunkwo urged party members to look beyond their existing supporters and welcome people from opposition parties who were willing to work for his success.

He said the 2027 election would be about the NDC, adding that many members of other political parties had already expressed their readiness to support his candidacy.

“The love for Peter Obi, the Seahorse, Andy Azike and Agbachukwu Ezeife cuts across political parties and religious affiliations,” he said.

He called on supporters to become good ambassadors of the NDC, take the party’s message to their communities and work actively towards its success at the polls.

Ezeife: Victory requires everyone’s effort

The NDC House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Agbachukwu Ezeife, said the responsibility of building a successful political movement could not be left to a few individuals.

He described the reception as an important opportunity to strengthen unity within the party and mobilise support for its candidates across Aguata and Anambra South.

Ezeife urged members to see the party’s campaign as a shared responsibility, stressing that every supporter had a role to play in reaching voters, explaining the party’s message and securing victory in 2027.

He said the party’s success would depend on commitment, teamwork and the ability of its members to work together, regardless of their individual backgrounds.

Azike: NDC remains the party to beat

The NDC House of Representatives candidate, Dr Andy Azike, thanked Ezeike for hosting the reception and praised the party faithful for turning out despite the difficult weather.

Azike said the gathering demonstrated the growing strength of the NDC and the determination of its members to build a winning political structure.

He described the NDC as the party of choice and called on supporters to remain united, organised and focused on the task ahead.

He also urged members to continue engaging with residents, listening to their concerns and presenting the party as a platform capable of responding to the needs of the people.

Earlier, the NDC chairman in Aguata Local Government Area, Hon. Nonso Okeke, thanked party members for attending the reception.

Okeke said the gathering was a positive sign of the opportunities and success awaiting the party, urging members to sustain the spirit of unity and commitment as preparations for the 2027 election gather pace.
