Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has ordered All
Progressives Congress members to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu and
every other party candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Uzodimma said the party’s success would depend on
discipline, loyalty and a coordinated campaign structure reaching every local
government, ward and polling unit across Imo State.
He spoke on Monday at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention
Centre in Owerri, where he inaugurated the APC Imo State Campaign Council for
the elections.
The governor said the council would coordinate campaigns for
the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly
contests, warning members against placing personal ambitions above the party’s
interests.
He said APC candidates must understand that their electoral
strength came from the party that sponsored them, rather than from their
individual names.
“In our democracy, you are not a candidate unless you are
sponsored by a political party,” Uzodimma said.
He explained that voters would find the APC name and symbol
on the ballot paper, not the names of individual candidates, making party unity
essential to victory.
“What is in the ballot box is the symbol and the name of our
political party, APC,” he said.
Uzodimma also warned candidates against secretly supporting
rival parties, insisting that membership of the APC must be reflected in both
their public conduct and private political actions.
“So if you are an APC candidate, you must be APC both in
character and in behaviour,” he said.
“You cannot be APC in the day and another party in the
night. Because you have a way of finding out who you are really.”
The governor said votes secured by one APC candidate at a
polling unit should translate into support for all other party candidates
contesting at the same location.
“If you have 20 votes in your polling unit and the National
Assembly candidate is not winning your polling vote, or Mr President is not
winning your polling vote, I can tell you, you have not won,” he said.
He directed the campaign council to reproduce its structure
in Imo’s 27 local government areas, wards and polling units, with leaders
expected to take responsibility for their assigned territories.
“Our campaign council must establish an active presence at
the local government, ward, and polling unit levels,” Uzodimma said, urging
party officials at every level to “take charge” of their areas.
