Senator Adams Oshiomhole has said
Nyesom Wike’s political support is directed at President Bola Tinubu rather
than the All Progressives Congress, APC, as tensions continue between the FCT
minister and some governors elected on the party’s platform.
Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North, made the clarification
during a TVC interview on Tuesday, against the background of Wike’s recent
criticism of some APC governors, whom the minister described as “politically
lazy”.
The former Edo governor said Wike had consistently made his
position clear: he is not an APC member but supports Tinubu’s bid for another
term in office. Wike himself made a similar clarification earlier this month.
According to Oshiomhole, the disagreement between Wike and
the governors does not mean either side is working against the President. He
said both groups remain committed to supporting Tinubu, despite their
differences over political issues.
“I am comfortable with the fact that the two sides are
working for the same goal, supporting the President,” Oshiomhole said, adding
that he had heard no argument from either side suggesting opposition to
Tinubu’s re-election.
The senator stressed that Wike’s position should not be
confused with membership of the ruling party. He said the minister had
repeatedly stated that he was not an APC member while maintaining his support
for Tinubu.
Wike has separately said his cross-party Rainbow Coalition
is aimed at mobilising support for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid and has no
formal connection with the APC. He has also maintained that other parties
should remain free to contest governorship and legislative elections.
