President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has
secured the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress after
recording a sweeping victory over fellow contender Stanley Osifo in the party’s
nationwide primaries.
Tinubu pulled a massive 10.99
million votes during the exercise, leaving Osifo far behind with 16,504 votes
from the direct primary election conducted across 8,809 wards in Nigeria.
The outcome was announced
during the ongoing national collation of results taking place at the President
Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where party leaders
and election officials gathered to present figures from different states.
Governors from 31
APC-controlled states, alongside senior party figures serving as coordinators
and collation officers, submitted the ward-by-ward results before the
Presidential Primary Election Committee headed by former Senate President Pius
Anyim.
The figures showed overwhelming
support for the president across the country. Tinubu cleared all 36 states and
the Federal Capital Territory, recording total dominance in many areas where he
reportedly received every valid vote cast.
Although heavily outnumbered,
Osifo still managed to make a noticeable showing in a handful of states. His
strongest performance came from Niger State, where he scored 5,248 votes.
He also gathered support in
Kano with 2,675 votes, while Lagos delivered 1,186 votes to his campaign. Other
states where he recorded modest numbers included Abia with 1,007 votes, Oyo
with 929, Benue with 779 and Nasarawa with 768 votes.
The result now places Tinubu
firmly in control of the APC’s 2027 presidential bid, further strengthening his
grip on the ruling party ahead of what is expected to be another fiercely
contested national election.
