Mikel Arteta is set to be rewarded with a new long-term
contract as Arsenal step up efforts to keep the Spaniard at the club for years
to come.
The Arsenal manager, whose current agreement runs until the
end of next season, is understood to be edging closer to signing fresh terms
after encouraging discussions between both parties.
While no official announcement is expected immediately,
sources suggest the talks have gone smoothly and that there is growing confidence
a deal will eventually be reached. Any final decision is likely to wait until
Arteta returns from his holiday.
The proposed agreement is expected to keep the 44-year-old
at the Emirates for another three years and would come with a significant pay rise.
Arteta currently earns around £10 million a season, with
additional bonuses linked to Champions League qualification. Under the new
arrangement, his earnings would rise substantially, reflecting the club’s
belief in the work he has done since taking charge.
The improved package could place Arteta among the best-paid
managers in English football. With Pep Guardiola expected to leave Manchester
City when his current spell comes to an end, Arsenal’s boss would move much
closer to the top of the managerial pay scale.
The move highlights Arsenal’s commitment to continuity as
the club looks to build on its recent progress under Arteta’s leadership and
continue challenging for major honours in the seasons ahead.
