Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has
declared its support for former President Goodluck Jonathan’s reported
presidential ambition, while reaffirming its loyalty to decisions taken by the
party’s national leadership.
The position was made known by the state chairman, Hon.
Yusuf Ado Kibiya, during a press briefing held at the party’s secretariat in
Kano on Monday.
Addressing journalists, Kibiya said the state chapter had
carefully considered recent decisions made by the party’s National Executive
Committee regarding Jonathan’s possible return to the presidential race.
According to him, the Kano PDP fully respects the authority of the party’s
national leadership and remains committed to working within the rules and principles
that guide the party.
He explained that the chapter recognises the importance of
due process and supports the right of the national body to make key decisions
concerning the party’s future direction.
Kibiya stressed that the Kano PDP remains focused on
strengthening the party and preparing for future elections. He said the chapter
would continue to collaborate with party leaders and stakeholders across the
country to promote the PDP’s goals and expand its support base.
The chairman also appealed to members to remain calm, united
and committed, regardless of recent political developments. He noted that
loyalty, discipline and cooperation would be crucial as the party positions
itself for upcoming political contests.
Reacting to concerns over defections and shifting political
alliances, Kibiya insisted that the PDP in Kano remains solid and organised. He
assured supporters that the party is still committed to providing credible
leadership and offering Nigerians a strong democratic alternative.
He added that the PDP would continue to champion
accountability, good governance and public service, maintaining its role as a
major force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
