Hon. Lilian Oby Orogbu, the member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has distributed bags of rice and cash support to staff and students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, as part of her continued engagement with people within her constituency.

The outreach took place on Thursday, 18 June 2026, during a town hall meeting held at the ASUU-UNIZIK Secretariat in Awka, where thousands of members of the university community gathered alongside party supporters and political stakeholders.

Addressing the crowd, Orogbu explained that the meeting formed part of her constituency tour and was designed to strengthen her relationship with the university community, which falls within the constituency she represents at the National Assembly in Abuja.

The lawmaker said the distribution of food items and financial assistance was aimed at easing the burden many people are facing due to the rising cost of living and food challenges across the country. According to her, supporting workers and students has remained a priority, especially at a time when many families are struggling to cope with economic pressures.

Orogbu noted that her interventions over the years have extended beyond relief materials. She pointed to previous empowerment programmes through which thousands of residents of Awka North and South, including university staff and students, received vocational training and support to improve their livelihoods.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the federal lawmaker urged members of the university community and residents of the constituency to support candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). She specifically canvassed support for Mr Peter Obi in the presidential race, Senator Victor Umeh for Anambra Central Senatorial District, herself for re-election to the House of Representatives, and Barrister Obinna Ogugua for Awka South 1 State Constituency.

Among those present at the gathering were Senator Victor Umeh, NDC supporters from across Anambra State, and a large turnout of UNIZIK staff and students.
