Panic As Enugu Air Flight Crash-Lands At Benin Airport

By Stephen Okeke

Enugu Air has assured passengers of its commitment to safety after one of its aircraft skidded off the runway while landing at Benin Airport in Edo State on Thursday, with all 68 passengers and crew escaping unharmed.

The incident, which briefly disrupted normal operations at the airport, involved an Enugu Air aircraft with registration number 5N-ENR. Despite the frightening landing, everyone on board safely disembarked, and no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

Confirming the development in a statement posted on its official X account, the airline said the aircraft has been secured and the relevant aviation authorities have been notified in line with standard safety procedures.

The airline disclosed that a comprehensive assessment is now underway to determine what caused the aircraft to veer off the runway during landing. It added that the outcome of the investigation would guide the next steps.

Enugu Air also warned that the incident could lead to temporary adjustments to some flight schedules. It, however, assured affected passengers that they would be contacted directly and provided with the necessary support and travel assistance.

Reaffirming its commitment to safe operations, the airline said the safety of its passengers, crew members and aircraft remains its highest priority. It promised to keep the public informed through its official communication channels as more details become available.

The runway incident comes exactly one year after Enugu Air launched commercial operations in July 2025. The airline was established through a partnership between the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, and XE Jet to accelerate the process of securing an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), a certification that typically takes up to two years to obtain.

While investigators work to establish the exact cause of the runway excursion, the safe evacuation of everyone on board stands as the most reassuring outcome of what could have been a far more serious aviation incident.
