FCT minister accuses former Rivers governor of turning against the South-South in 2015

Minister Nyesom Wike has criticised former Rivers State
Governor Rotimi Amaechi, saying
his alleged role in the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan during the
2015 election makes it difficult for him to expect support for a
vice-presidential bid in 2027.
Speaking during a media chat with selected journalists in
Abuja on Tuesday, Wike argued that many people in the South-South had not
forgotten Amaechi's position during Jonathan's re-election campaign. He claimed
the former minister openly opposed a fellow son of the region at a critical
political moment.
"When Jonathan from the South-South wanted to run for a
second term, Amaechi went on national television and said, 'Kick him out.' A
South-South person wanted a second term, and you were proud to say that. Now
you expect the same region to support you as vice president?" Wike said.
The FCT minister added that, in his view, politics should
not ignore loyalty to one's own people.
"You kicked your own brother out and now you want
people to kick you in. It doesn't work that way," he added.
Wike also called on Rivers State residents to reject Amaechi
in the next general election, describing him as someone who had failed to
represent the state's interests.
He further alleged that Amaechi did not deliver meaningful
development projects to Rivers State during his time as a minister.
Amaechi has not publicly responded to Wike's latest remarks.
The comments add to the long-running political rivalry between the two Rivers
politicians, whose differences have continued to shape political discussions in
the state as attention gradually shifts towards the 2027 general elections.
